Adult Youth Rock from Japan

Every song has a story.

Behind every song is a life that has been lived.

This six-song EP is the first chapter of Route62’s “Adult Youth Rock from Japan.” Rather than looking back with nostalgia, these songs celebrate the courage to keep dreaming, laughing, loving, and moving forward.

Each song tells a different story.

Some are energetic rock anthems.

Some are warm love songs.

Some reflect on the passage of time.

Others simply celebrate the joy of still being here.

Together, they share one belief:

Life doesn’t end at sixty. Sometimes, that’s exactly where a brand-new journey begins.

These aren’t songs about growing old.

They’re songs about continuing to live.

Below, you’ll find the stories behind each song—the inspiration, the memories, and the moments that brought them to life.

Welcome to the world of Route62.

Track 01: Still Got It

The Story

I began my professional career in 1986—an era when stadium rock anthems were conquering the world. Like many people of my generation, I grew up surrounded by the music of the 1970s and 1980s. The Beatles, Michel Polnareff, Bay City Rollers, ABBA, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Rainbow, Jeff Beck, Larry Carlton, Journey, and Guns N’ Roses all helped shape my love of music. Their songs became the soundtrack of my life.
As life moved on, I got married, raised a family, and focused on my career. Music never left me, but it became something I listened to rather than something I created. For decades, I never imagined I would write a song of my own.

Everything changed because of a short video.

One day, I came across a viral video showing strangers in a public park, spontaneously singing a legendary 1980s rock anthem together. People of different ages, backgrounds, and nationalities were smiling, singing, and sharing the same moment. Watching that scene deeply moved me.

At that moment, I realized something.

We have countless songs that remind us of our youth. Songs that bring back memories of our teenage years and first loves.

But where are the songs for the people we have become?

Where are the anthems for those of us who are still working, still dreaming, still laughing, and still living life in our 60s?

That question stayed with me.

Although I had no experience in songwriting or music production and couldn’t even read sheet music, I decided to ask AI a simple question:
“Can someone like me write a song?”

The answer was simple.
“Of course you can.”

For me, AI wasn’t a replacement for creativity—it became a creative partner. It gave me the opportunity to express ideas that had been inside me for decades.

The result was “Still Got It“.

The song is, in many ways, my personal answer to the classic anthems of our youth. I often wonder what the young, passionate characters from those legendary 1980s songs might look like forty years later. They may have grown older, but I like to imagine them still smiling, still supporting each other, and still believing that life has more adventures ahead.

That’s what “Still Got It” means to me.

It’s not about pretending we’re young again.
It’s about believing that passion, curiosity, hope, and dreams don’t disappear with age.

The lyrics even mention George Clooney—not because the song is about him, but because he has become a symbol of growing older with confidence and style. Forty years ago, I probably would have written Sean Connery instead.

Route62 was born from one simple belief:
Life doesn’t end at sixty. Sometimes, that’s exactly where a brand-new journey begins.

If this song reminds even one person that it’s never too late to start something new, then “Still Got It” has already achieved its purpose.

Track 02: Let’s Circle Back

The Story

Have you ever sat in a meeting surrounded by younger coworkers, listening to the latest corporate buzzwords while quietly pretending you knew exactly what they meant?

That was me.

One phrase kept coming up: “Let’s circle back.”

At first, I laughed at how strange it sounded. But then I realized something—we had our own trendy expressions when we were young. Our parents probably felt exactly the same way.

Every generation invents its own language.

History doesn’t really change. It just finds new words.

This song became a fun, energetic rock anthem celebrating the generation gap—and the timeless cycle of youth.

Track 03: Somebody Hear Me Out

The Story

I always imagined retirement would feel like a permanent vacation.

Instead, I suddenly had more free time than I knew what to do with.

These days I enjoy traveling, taking photos, and posting them online. Then I catch myself checking my phone over and over again to see who liked my latest post.

Sometimes the first “like” is my own.

It makes me laugh every time.

Behind the humor, though, is something many of us quietly feel—the desire to stay connected and to know someone is listening.

This song is for anyone who’s ever wondered, “Can anybody hear me out?”

Track 04: Where’s My Patch?

The Story

After decades of marriage, love begins to sound a little different.

Instead of saying, “I love you,” the first words in the morning are often,

“Have you seen my pain-relief patch?”

That may not sound romantic, but to me, it is.

Real love isn’t always dramatic. Sometimes it’s simply taking care of each other through everyday life—the good days, the difficult days, and yes, even the aches and pains.

This is my love song for couples who have spent a lifetime together. It celebrates a kind of love that has grown quieter, deeper, and stronger with time. The butterflies may have faded, but the bond has only become more precious.

This is my thank-you to every partner who has quietly stayed by our side through the years.

Track 05: Flat or Curved?

The Story

One question has always puzzled me.

Why are young people’s baseball caps always perfectly flat?

For years I thought,

“I’m too old to wear one of those.”

Then one day, while my son was out, I quietly borrowed his cap and looked in the mirror.

To my surprise…

It actually looked pretty good!

Then I remembered something.

Our fathers probably looked at our fashion the same way we look at today’s trends.

Every generation thinks the next one looks a little strange.

And every generation eventually becomes the one saying,

“When I was your age…”

So I decided to do something I never imagined—I challenged myself to rap at the age of 62.

If we’re going to tell people it’s never too late to try something new, then I should be willing to prove it myself.

This playful rap celebrates that never-ending cycle.

Track 06: Older Than You Now

The Story

One day I looked in the mirror and realized something that stopped me in my tracks.

I am now older than my parents were when they passed away.

When I was younger, I rarely said the words, “I’m sorry” or “Thank you.”

I always thought there would be more time.

There wasn’t.

As I’ve grown older, I’ve finally begun to understand what they must have felt, the sacrifices they made, and how much they loved me.

This song is my letter to them.

A song of gratitude.

A song of healing.

Above all, it’s a song about regret, forgiveness, and renewal.

It’s about accepting the past, forgiving ourselves for the words left unsaid, and finding the courage to move forward with a heart full of gratitude.

And a quiet reminder that it’s never too late to say,

“Thank you for letting me be your child.”
